I finally broke down redirected my RSS feeds to FeedBurner. A couple days ago, using the built in CommunityServer functionality, I redirected my 3 "category" feeds to Feedburner. Since CommunityServer automatically handles the redirects, it was very easy, and depending on what blog reader you use, you probably don't have to do anything. If you have to manually do the updates here are the old and new settings:
http://donxml.com/allthingstechie/rss.aspx redirects to http://feeds.feedburner.com/DonXmlAllThingsTechie
http://donxml.com/grokthis/rss.aspx redirects to http://feeds.feedburner.com/DonXmlGrokThis
http://donxml.com/music/rss.aspx redirects to http://feeds.feedburner.com/DonXmlMusicReviews
I still need to update the links on the main page to reflect these changes (since that page is my custom page, and not a CommunityServer page).
But, I know most people just subscribe to the main feed, and both CommunityServer 2.1 and 2007 both do not handle redirecting aggregate feeds to external urls. So, I took a couple minutes and added it to my custom version of CommunityServer. I probably should have just created my own dll, and mapped the ashx to it, but I went the easy way and just updated the original code (ah the beauty of getting source code with a product). From what I've been hearing about Telligent's new Graffiti product, odds are I'll be switching my site to it, but for now, I'm sticking with CommunityServer 2.1. Oh, here's the main feed settings:
http://donxml.com/MainFeed.aspx redirects to http://feeds.feedburner.com/donxml
I'm also going to start playing with the layout again, and improve the where I put the ads. I know it isn't a big deal for the blog subscribers (you never see the site), but for the folks that find my site thru a search engine, I want to make some more ad revenue from them. A couple months back I took down the big ad in the middle of my a blog posts, and my revenue has dropped quite a bit. I have to come up with something a little more visually appealing, because the old ad placement was a bit much.
Oh, I also removed RssBandit from my machine and only use GoogleReader. I read too many blogs, and RssBandit sucked too much RAM for my liking. I still really like RssBandit, but GoogleReader will have to do for now.
