TechEd 2006 Bathroom Update

This blog post is done for Rory, since he is not here at TechEd this year (well, truthfully, the bathroom update post is a traditionally a PDC thing, but since there is no PDC this year…)

I must say, although the bathroom are germophobia friendly, with no doors, and autoflush urinals, 3 urinals and 3 stalls and spread a half a mile apart makes for long lines.  Combine that with inadiquate cooling, you get interesting aromas.  Add in one paper towel dispenser per bathroom, and you get a lot of water on the floor (at least I hope it is water, maybe some folks didn’t make that long wait in line).  Other gripe is that there is no bathrooms, snacks or drinks in the main vendor and community areas.  So if you are manning a booth or a Technology Learning Center, you have to walk out of the very large hanger area to the sessions areas.

I’ve been to a number of large conference centers, and I have to say that although this one is relatively new, I’m not impressed with the facility.

But, I’m still having a great time.

Word :)

I'm in California right now. Did a user group talk tonight on Windows Mobile stuff.

Gotta love those tiny things...

I wish I were with you and the rest of the crew at TechEd, but there wasn't any money for it this year :|

These things happen.

Be well, my friend, and thanks for the bathroom update :)

Don,

You forgot to mention that many of the paper towel dispensers are "crippled" so that we won't use too many paper towels. The result is that everyone pumps the handle twice as many times to get the same amount of paper as they would if the device weren't crippled, but now we're pissed off at the end of it.

About donxml

I’m an independent consultant, specializing in .Net solutions architecture, based out of New Jersey who also doubles as an evangelist for XML, Domain Driven Design, enterprise architecture and .Net. I do not work for Microsoft, the W3C or any other big company that you may know of (at least not yet). I’ve been an indie for over ten years, and although I’ve been tempted a couple times to take a job with companies like Microsoft, I’ve haven’t found something better than my current situation. I work mostly with the large pharmaceuticals that are based here in New Jersey, and usually find myself on long term contracts. Definitely not the prototypical indie consultant, but it lets me dedicate time to my non-income generating activities like the developer community stuff, plus financing open source projects like XPathmania and MVP-XML. If you would like to talk to me about doing some contract work, just contact me via the contact page. My rates vary widely, depending on lots of different variables, but mostly distance from Jersey, and type of work. Plus, I’ve been known to donate some of my code for various projects.
