Microsoft Is Down to 6,999 Positions Left to Fill

If you haven’t heard, Microsoft is planning to hire 7000 people this fiscal year.  Well, it looks like they only have 6,999 left to hire.

No, I didn’t not take a job with Microsoft, but Rory did.  He will be a MSDN Presenter, which basically means he is getting paid to do things that he loves to do, and was actually paying to do.  This is great news for him and Microsoft.  It is a natural fit.

But, I wonder how Microsoft is going to handle dealing with the hoards of Rory groupies (Neopoleonites) traveling from MSDN event to MSDN event (reminiscent of the Dead Heads following the Grateful Dead tours of a bygone era).  Well it will not be long until we find out, because MSDN Events is kicking off a new tour for August and September traveling from Alaska to Florida.  I wonder how many “shows” Rory will be performing at.

Oh, I one final question (and an important one to me).  Will he be at the next Sells-a-thon?

Update: I guess Microsoft is down to 6,998 positions to fill.  Seems like the (sometimes) singer of the INETA band (G. Andrew Duthie) has also joined the Microsoft team.  Congrats.

That would be kind of neat if there was a web page with a Job Counter decreasing as the positions were filled.

About donxml

I’m an independent consultant, specializing in .Net solutions architecture, based out of New Jersey who also doubles as an evangelist for XML, Domain Driven Design, enterprise architecture and .Net. I do not work for Microsoft, the W3C or any other big company that you may know of (at least not yet). I’ve been an indie for over ten years, and although I’ve been tempted a couple times to take a job with companies like Microsoft, I’ve haven’t found something better than my current situation. I work mostly with the large pharmaceuticals that are based here in New Jersey, and usually find myself on long term contracts. Definitely not the prototypical indie consultant, but it lets me dedicate time to my non-income generating activities like the developer community stuff, plus financing open source projects like XPathmania and MVP-XML. If you would like to talk to me about doing some contract work, just contact me via the contact page. My rates vary widely, depending on lots of different variables, but mostly distance from Jersey, and type of work. Plus, I’ve been known to donate some of my code for various projects.
